A Penarth man has been chosen to play for Wales Over 50s in the World Masters Hockey Cup.

Mark Harris, who started playing hockey around four decades ago, is preparing to represent his nation in Auckland this November.

Mr Harris's hockey career began around the age of 10 or 11 and is deeply rooted in his hometown where he played for Penarth and later for Whitchurch in Cardiff.

His talent was identified early on as he was selected to play for Wales in the under 15, 16, 18 and 21 age groups.

His connection with Penarth's club was strong enough to draw him back in 2005.

Since then, he has featured in the Wales Over 40s and Over 45s teams.

His proudest moment to date was the opportunity to captain the Over 45s in the 2022 World Cup in Cape Town against Argentina.

Mr Harris now looks to Auckland, bearing the financial burden of participation.

He plans to raise funds through various avenues, including a GoFundMe page he has set up to ease the cost of the journey ahead.
