It was another disappointing week for Penarth Belle Vue Bowls Club, although one rink did earn a win.
The July 10 match away against Windsor painted a bleak picture with a heavy loss of 31 points to 91.
Poor weather conditions made it challenging; the rain altered the run of the green, and members found it difficult to adjust to the change in pace conditions.
Despite the harsh climate - which was compared to autumn/winter rather than summer - and the substantial loss, spirits were high.
Participants relished in the friendly welcome, and while some shivered from the cold at the end of the match, the enjoyment was palpable.
Despite another loss, rounding out at 51 to 117, a beacon of hope shone through: one of Belle Vue's rinks saw victory.
Led by Gerry Field and comprising members Malcolm Thomas, Stephanie Lowder, and Ginette Wedge, the foursome secured a notable 25-14 win.
Overcoming a swift green, the quartet's resounding performance couldn't inspire similar results from the other three rinks.
The opposition seemed to master every shot with precision, unsettling Belle Vue's tactics and making winning a distant reality.
The struggle was embodied in the troupe's efforts.
Even though they knew what needed to be done, the reality didn’t match the effort.
Undeterred, Belle Vue looks forward to welcoming Windsor to their home ground at the end of July.
