Penarth Wanderers Vets FC have started a new season in a new league.

The over 35s team now compete in the Wales Veterans League Over 40s Eastern Division.

Their first match was on September 1 against Canton Vets Over 40s and there was an issue with unavailability and late withdrawals. Although the side put up a good fight it was a humbling experience against a very well organised Canton side, losing 8-0. Player of the match was Gary Ato.

On September 8 Penarth's Casual League (now named the SW Casual League Premiership) played Cardiff Hibernian. Penarth came from behind three times before Regan Llewellyn grabbed all three points with a well-struck free kick. Stand out players were Kane Boyle, scoring twice, Alex Lee and Huw Richards.

Back to Wales Vets action on September 15 with a trip to Trelai to play Ely Sports Vets Over 40s. Penarth raced into a two-goal lead, both scored by Richards and assisted by Kean after some strong centre forward play. In a crazy first 15 minutes, Penarth were pegged back to 2-2 before they scored again, through Richards, to make it 3-2. Ely scored again to make it 3-3 but then the injuries started. Goalkeeper Mark Lewis injured his arm, replaced by Turpitt, Salter got clattered and sustained a knee injury, but stayed on as we only had one substitute. Kean injured his back and Hutchinson went down with cramp. Ely grabbed the opportunity to make a bad situation worse running out 8-3 winners. Player of the match was Dave Lewis.

On September 22, Penarth had their second Casual League match against Exiles FC. A strong Wanderers side took full control of the game with goals from Boyle (2), Llewellyn and new signing Will Zehetmayr, the fifth goal coming from an own goal. Player of the match was Huw Richards. Final score 5-1 to the Wanderers.

The final match of the month on September 29 was against leaders Cascade Over 40s. It was fairly even for the first 15 minutes before Cascade scored. They took a 4-0 lead going into half-time. A couple of changes were made to the Wanderers line-up. Turcu scored which raised the spirits of the Penarth lads and when Maksimovic scored, Penarth's confidence grew. However, a spate of individual errors condemned Penarth to a 7-2 defeat. Player of the match was Huw Richards.

The next match for the Over 40s will be away to Aber Valley Vets Over 40s on October 13 and for the Casuals team it will be away to East Cardiff City on October 20.
